Offline Recording

Record consultations even without internet connection

Record Anywhere, Sync Everywhere

ROSC's offline recording feature allows you to capture patient consultations even without an internet connection. Perfect for rural clinics, hospital basements, or anywhere with spotty connectivity.

How Offline Recording Works

When you record offline, ROSC stores the audio locally on your device. Once you reconnect to the internet, the app automatically uploads and processes your recordings. You'll receive your AI-generated notes just as you would with online recordings.

Storage Requirements

Offline recordings are stored on your device until uploaded. A typical 15-minute consultation uses approximately 15-20MB of storage. Ensure you have adequate free space before recording offline.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. 1

    Enable offline mode in Settings

Navigate to Settings in the ROSC mobile app:

    1. Open the ROSC app
    2. Tap the menu icon (three lines) in the top left
    3. Select "Settings"
    4. Find "Offline Mode" under Recording Settings
    5. Toggle "Enable Offline Recording" to ON

Note: Offline mode remains enabled until you manually turn it off, even after recordings sync.

  2. 2

    Record as usual without internet

When offline mode is enabled, you'll see an indicator:

    • Small cloud icon with a slash through it in the top bar
    • Recording button shows "Record Offline" instead of "Record"
    • Banner notification confirming offline mode is active
  3. 3

    Recordings saved locally on device

The offline recording process is identical to online recording. Audio is captured with the same quality and saved locally on your device with encryption.

  4. 4

    Connect to internet when available

    When you regain internet connectivity:

    1. ROSC detects the connection automatically
    2. A notification asks if you want to upload pending recordings
    3. Tap "Upload Now" or wait for automatic upload
    4. Progress bar shows upload status

Upload Time: A 15-minute recording typically uploads in 30-60 seconds on a good connection.

  5. 5

    ROSC automatically syncs and processes

Once uploaded, ROSC processes your offline recordings just like online ones. Processing typically completes within 30-90 seconds depending on recording length. You'll receive a notification when your notes are ready.

Offline Recording Best Practices

  • Check available storage before starting offline recordings
  • Upload recordings to Wi-Fi before leaving for the day to avoid mobile data usage
  • Keep your device charged - offline recording uses slightly more battery
  • Don't delete the app before offline recordings are uploaded
  • Test offline mode in advance to ensure it works on your device

Managing Offline Recordings

View pending uploads

Go to Settings → Offline Recordings to see all recordings waiting to upload. You can view file size, duration, and estimated upload time for each.

Manual upload control

Select individual recordings to upload immediately, or choose "Upload All" to sync everything at once. You can also pause uploads if needed.

Delete local copies

After successful upload and processing, you can delete local copies to free up space. ROSC keeps the processed notes and transcripts in the cloud.

Troubleshooting

Recording failed to save offline

Check that offline mode is enabled and you have sufficient storage. Try clearing cache in Settings → Storage if storage appears available but recording fails.

Upload stuck or failing

Ensure stable internet connection. Try switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data. If upload continues to fail, contact support - your recordings are safely stored locally.

Can't find offline recordings

Check Settings → Offline Recordings for pending uploads. If recordings don't appear, they may have auto-uploaded already. Check your Recordings tab for processed notes.

Use Cases for Offline Recording

  • Rural Clinics: Areas with unreliable internet connectivity
  • Hospital Basements: Locations with poor cellular reception
  • Mobile Health Units: Recording while traveling between locations
  • International Relief: Medical missions in areas with limited infrastructure
  • Data Conservation: Avoid using mobile data during consultations

Offline recording ensures you never miss documenting a patient encounter, regardless of connectivity. Combined with ROSC's automatic sync, you get the best of both worlds: reliability when offline and seamless integration when connected.
