Getting Notes into Your EMR
Copy, export or insert ROSC notes into the EMR you already use
Works alongside the EMR you already use
ROSC doesn't replace your EMR. When a note is ready, you review it in ROSC and then place it in the patient's chart yourself. There are three ways to do that, and none of them needs changes to your EMR or an IT integration project.
1. Copy or export the note (any EMR)
This works with every EMR, whether it runs in a browser or is installed on your computer.
- Open the visit in ROSC and review the note.
- Click the copy button to copy the whole note in one click.
- Paste it into the note field in your EMR, check it, and save it there.
Need a file instead? Export the note as a PDF or Word document, for example to attach it to the chart or share it with your team.
2. Insert with the ROSC Chrome extension (browser-based EMRs)
The ROSC Medical Assistant extension is available on the Chrome Web Store. It opens in Chrome's side panel next to your EMR, so you can record, review and insert the note without switching tabs.
- Install ROSC Medical Assistant from the Chrome Web Store and sign in with your ROSC account.
- Open your EMR in Google Chrome and click the ROSC icon to open the side panel.
- Record a visit, or pick a recent one.
- Click into the note field in your EMR, then click Insert. ROSC places the note in the field you're in.
- Check the inserted text and save the note in your EMR as usual.
Requirements: Google Chrome on a computer and a ROSC account. The extension works with EMRs that run in the browser; for installed EMRs, use copy or export.
3. Open ROSC from your EMR with a launch link
Many EMRs allow you to add a custom toolbar button or external link. You can point one at ROSC so it opens in one click, ready to record.
- In ROSC, go to Settings > EMR launch.
- Choose what the link opens (a new visit or your latest visit) and, if you like, a template.
- Copy your launch link. It starts with
https://app.rosc.ai/launch. - In your EMR, open the settings for custom toolbar buttons or external links, add a button named "ROSC", paste the link and set it to open in your web browser. Your clinic administrator may need to do this step.
- Click it during a visit. If you aren't signed in, ROSC asks you to sign in and then continues.
Privacy: The launch link is the same for every patient and never contains patient information. Don't add names, health card numbers or other identifiers to it. Menu names for custom links vary by EMR and version.
In progress: ROSC Desktop
ROSC Desktop is a companion app for EMRs that are installed on your computer rather than used in a browser. It is in beta testing and not yet generally available. Until it is, use copy or export with installed EMRs.
Good to know
- ROSC doesn't connect to your EMR's database or API, so notes are never sent to the chart automatically. You review each note and decide where it goes.
- No EMR credentials are entered in ROSC, and there is nothing to set up on the EMR side for copy, export or the Chrome extension.
Troubleshooting
The note didn't land in the right field
Click inside the EMR's note field first, then click Insert again. If the field still doesn't accept it, copy the note and paste it in.
My EMR has no place for a custom link
Not every EMR supports custom toolbar buttons or external links. Bookmark the launch link in your browser instead, or open ROSC at app.rosc.ai.
Formatting looks different after pasting
Some EMR note fields accept plain text only. Check headings and lists after pasting, or attach the PDF or Word export instead.
